Easy Anchovy Curry Recipe (Dried Anchovy Curry)

This dish is easy to cook and tastes perfect with a bowl of white rice or roti.

Equipment

Ingredients

Anchovy

  • 1 cup dried Anchovy

Vegetables

  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • cup chopped onion
  • ½ tbsp ginger & garlic paste
  • 2 green chili (As per taste)
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro

Spices

Seasoning

  • salt (as per taste)

Oil

  • ½ tbsp oil (for rest of curry) (Any vegetable oil of your choice)
  • ½ tbsp oil (frying anchovy)

Water

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup hot/warm water

Instructions

  •  Soak one cup of dried anchovies in warm water for 10-15 mins to soften. After 15 mins, drain the water from the anchovies.

  • Add half a tablespoon of oil. Once hot, add anchovy and stir fry on medium-high heat for 4-5mins. Once fried, remove it from the pan and set it aside.
    ½ tbsp oil (frying anchovy)
  • Once fried, remove it from the pan and set it aside.
  • Add oil. Once hot add cumin seeds. Let it cook for a min until the color changes to brown.
    ½ tbsp oil (for rest of curry), ¼ tsp cumin seeds
  • Then add ginger, garlic, and green chilies to the pan. Stir fry it for a few minutes.
    ½ tbsp ginger & garlic paste, 2 green chili (As per taste)
  • Add chopped onion. Cook it until the onion color changes to brown and softens.
    ⅓ cup chopped onion
  • Once the onion softens, add chopped tomatoes and cook it for a few mins on medium-high heat.

  • Once the tomato is half cooked, add all spices.
    ¼ tsp curry masala powder, ¼ tsp kashmiri red chili powder, ¼ tsp ground turmeric
  • Combine everything well. Cook it for 2-3 minutes. Add half a cup of water. Let it simmer.

  • Once the paste becomes thick or water-dried, add fried anchovy and combine everything well. Add half a cup of water and let it simmer for 4-5 mins.

  • Last but not least, season with salt and add cilantro. Combine everything and anchovy curry is ready to be served
    ¼ cup chopped cilantro, salt (as per taste)
