Kakro Ko Achar
Nepali cucumber achar, or “kakro ko achar,” is a spicy cucumber salad. It is a popular side dish in Nepal that is usually eaten with a meal.
Black sesame seeds or “til” give this achar an extra delicious touch. As Nepalis, we enjoy a variety of pickles and spicy salads as side dishes with rice, dal, and curry.
Cucumber til ko achar is another popular recipe frequently made in many Nepali households. Of course, recipes might vary, but this is how I make it at home, and it tastes delicious with rice.
Here is a quick & easy Nepali cucumber achar recipe.
Ingredients
Vegetables: Cucumber and cilantro.
Oil: Any vegetable oil of your choice.
Seasoning: Salt, fenugreek seeds, lemon juice, and black sesame powder. Sesame seeds should be roasted and finely blended.
Spices: Turmeric powder, curry powder, red chili powder or green chili, and sichuan pepper (timmur).
Instructions
- Chop cucumber into small pieces.
- Add salt and let it sit for 15-20 minutes to release some water. Throw the excess water from the cucumber and then add cilantro, sesame seeds, lemon, salt, and sichuan chili flakes to the cucumber.
- Heat oil in the pan. Add fenugreek seed.
- Once the fenugreek color changes to brown, add turmeric powder, chili powder, and curry powder to the pan.
- Let it cook for a minute.
- After that, add oil to the cucumber. Combine everything well. Cucumber Achar is ready. Either serve it as a side dish with the main course or eat it alone.
Serving Suggestion
I love to pair cucumber achar with rice and chicken curry. You can also serve it with roti with aloo cauliflower curry. When I have guests over, I generally serve it with chuira alongside aloo ko achar.

- Transfer chopped cucumber to the bowl. Add salt and let it sit for 10 mins. Remove all the excess water and let it sit aside.2 cup chopped cucumber

- Pour oil into the bowl. Combine everything well.
- The cucumber achar is ready. You can serve it with rice or eat it on its own.
